Welcome to Fenton!
Whether you currently live in Fenton and are looking to move to your dream lake home, or you are new to the area, Fenton is a great community, and their current mantra suggests this, "Fenton Be Closer". Fenton is located within close proximity to US 23 and just a short drive from 96 for easy access to the metropolitan Detroit areas. Besides the proximity to transportation infrastructure, another feature of the Fenton location is that the area is surrounded by many lakes, 10 lakes to be exact! And their are many community parks to enjoy the nature that surrounds Fenton. Please check out fentonbecloser.com for more information.
Fenton was settled by a group of families in 1834 from the Grand Blanc area, known as Grumlaw at that time. In 1836, Dibbleville, which was named after Clark Dibble, the leader of the group of first settlers, only consisted of a small group of families. Later, in 1839 it was platted. The city's current name was established in 1837, and the city prospered for many years. The railroad, that is still active today through the downtown area, was a major contributor to the city's success, and in 1863, the Village of Fenton was incorporated. But, it wasn't until 1964 that the Village of Fenton was amended to its' current name, the City of Fenton. The City's rich cultural history is present in its downtown district. The downtown scene
Downtown Fenton exhibits and maintains its history everywhere from the most recent renovations at Red Fox Footwear, to Fenton Firehall, and the Fenton Community Center. I would recommend checking out the area when visiting anyone of the many events including the Taste of Fenton and Fenton Art Walk in July, Back to the Bricks in August, and St. John's Applefest in September. Or, you can check it out after visiting the Farmer's Market which starts on Thursday's at the end of June.
If you're into food, Fenton boasts a great number of wonderful restaurants. The Fenton Hotel, The Laundry, Crust, Fenton Fire Hall, Fenton Deli, and the Fenton House are just a few! Try them all!
Lastly, what is a great community without its' youth. There are two school districts in Fenton, Fenton Area Public Schools and Lake Fenton Community Schools. Fenton Area Public schools consists of 6 schools, and is proud to offer an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program to 11th and 12th graders. Please visit fentonschools.org and ibo.org for additional information. Lake Fenton Community schools consists of 4 schools. In 2013-2014, it's MEAP scores rated Lake Fenton Schools as the top in the county in many academic categories! Check out lakefentonschools.org for more information.
