Welcome to Milford!
Milford is located in the SE corner of Oakland County. It's home to the GM Proving Grounds, one of Detroit's newest YMCA's, over 30 restaurants, several parks including Central Park on the Huron River, the Milford Trail that runs from Kensington to Milford, and has a higher than average income for Oakland County. What's not to love about Milford!
The Charter Township of Milford was established in 1832. A sawmill, located where the Pettibone Creek flows into the Huron River, was the first establishment in this area. The first street connected the sawmill with a gristmill built in 1834, and that first street is Huron Street that's still there today. Shortly there after that, settlements formed south of the river and then north of the river. The Village was incorporated in 1869. Milford's location and proximity and use of waterpower enabled it to become one of the first communities in Michigan to have a system of electrical lights. Today Milford has approximately 6,300 residents.
